Explanation:
(This amendment provides funding to support mentors for new teachers. Existing funding for new teacher mentors in hard-to-staff schools was eliminated in the budget as introduced. In FY 2012, $527,287 was provided so 689 new teachers, across 29 school divisions, would receive the support of a mentor teacher. Since this program is currently Lottery-funded, additional general funds would be provided for SOQ English as a Second Language, which is currently split-funded between Lottery Proceeds and general funds. Related language and dollar amendments will be reflected in all applicable service areas of SB 30 upon enrolling of this amendment.) |
