Included in the appropriation for this item is $1,200,103 the first year and $1,304,140 the second year from the general fund for the Piedmont Regional Jail to support costs associated with staffing jail capacity previously constructed with federal funds, where the contract for housing federal inmates under which such capacity was built has expired."

Explanation:
(This amendment provides language and funding to provide staffing for certified jail capacity in the Piedmont Regional Jail that is not currently provided by the Compensation Board because such capacity was previously constructed with federal funds for the housing of federal inmates. Such previous contracts have expired and jail beds house state and local responsible inmates. This jail currently repays overhead costs to the Commonwealth for housing federal inmates, but has never been staffed by the Commonwealth for the beds in which inmates are housed. A companion amendment to Item 75 provides language authorizing staffing and positions in the position count table necessary to implement the staffing.)
